In the latest issue of Essence magazine, Lauryn Hill says her decision to retreat from the music business stemmed from it becoming a "very toxic situation" for her.
"I discovered people could only acknowledge red and blue and I was somewhere between. I was purple," she told the magazine. “And when I can't be whole, I have a problem. I was like, 'I've got to get out of here.’”
Her three-year hiatus, she says, was spent "away from all social interaction," including the absence of music and television. "It was a very introspective and complicated time because I had to really confront my fears," she said. Read more

The Associated Press reports three people were stabbed early Wednesday at a Manhattan club that was hosting a record-release party for a new collection of duets featuring slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. Detectives also were investigating a shooting near the club, named Exit, that occurred around the same time. It was unclear if the two incidents were related. Read more.
'Top Of The Pops' reports that 50 Cent is rather lax on rules in raising his young son. "My son is nine years old and I play my video game with him," the G-Unit mainman said. "We turn on the music and turn down the volume of the TV because there's a lot of swearing in the game." He added, "My son watches R-rated films all the time, with me present so I can explain what he's seeing. Now, if you leave him by himself, he's going to assume the wrong thing." Read more.

To help promote her forthcoming album, instead of just picking her first single and shooting a video for it, Pink has chosen two songs and shot videos for both, figuring that she'll decide later. "We're getting down to the wire," she admitted to MTV News. ELTON EXTENDS OLIVE BRANCH TO MADONNA
ELTON John tried to end his feud with Madonna by inviting her to sing at the bachelor party for him and his husband, David Furnish, Monday night. But John told his guests, "Madonna, the miserable cow, wouldn't do it. David asked her three times." Bryan Adams and the Scissor Sisters performed for the likes of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Elizabeth Hurley and Kid Rock. Madge's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, told PAGE SIX, "Madonna wishes Elton all the best, and hopes married life will make him a happier person."
THE RETURN OF FUTURAMA
Is Futurama coming back to the small screen? Well, I damn well hope so, and so does show creator Matt Groening. TV Squad reports that since the DVD sales for the super fantastic series from the creator of The Simpsons is selling so well on DVD, it might be ressurected in that same fashion as Family Guy.

Jessica Simpson is rumoured to be making a guest appearance on 'Desperate Housewives'.The screen beauty - who recently announced her split from husband Nick Lachey - is allegedly being lined-up for one or two episodes of the hit US drama. An insider told MSN: "There's talk of her being on an episode or two." The sexy star has also been spotted having lunch with the show's Eva Longoria at Los Angeles eatery Cha Cha Cha. An onlooker said Jessica told Eva: "Thanks for making me laugh. You know how much I need that right now." Representatives for 'Desperate Housewives' have so far denied Jessica is being lined up for a guest slot.
