FANTASIA DOES SHORTENED COURT TIME
Fantasia, a High Point native who now owns a home in southeast Charlotte, was chosen Wednesday to serve on a Mecklenburg County Superior Court jury in a motor vehicle negligence case.
Testimony took less than a day, and Judge W. David Lee sent jurors out to deliberate late Wednesday, said Charles Keller, a court system administrator. But when it became apparent that deliberations would continue into Thursday, lawyers agreed that Barrino was free to go.
But during Fantasia's time at the courthouse, other jurors and court officials took full advantage of her presence.
"People recognized her right away," Keller told the Associated Press. "Jurors started coming up to her taking pictures with their camera phones and getting autographs. She's just really nice, down to earth. Not at all what you'd expect."

MARY J. CO-SIGNS WITH KANYE'S FEELINGS
Mary J. Blige is a happier person than she was, but she doesn't think America's changed at all when it comes to race relations. "The blacker you are, the worse it is for you," she tells The Guardian. "If you're mixed, you've got a shot. If you cater to what white America wants you to do and how they want you to look, you can survive. But if you want to be yourself, and try to do things that fit you, and your skin, nobody cares about that. At the end of the day, white America dominates and rules. And it's racist." Read more.

"It has been hard being Brandy's brother," Ray J admitted, during our interview at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. "I look at it like this-it just makes me stronger and makes me more powerful at the end of the day. But I felt like, damn, there is a place in the music game for me but I just got to find out who I am musically. So now it's time for me to get serious about my music and go out there and show them what I'm made of."

EVER since Tao opened in Vegas, more and more Manhattan hot spots are looking to branch out to Sin City. High-priced Japanese eatery Megu, Jay-Z's sports club 40/40, the Old Homestead, One and Crobar are all eyeing a desert outpost. "Vegas is definitely the spot where everyone wants to be," says Ron Berkowitz, president of Berk Communications, who is handling those places' expansion. "But it does not stop there, Megu is opening two more spots in Manhattan in 2006, and Crobar and the 40/40 Club are expanding to Los Angeles in the fall of 2006. The New York restaurant and night-life scene is taking over in these big cities."

The burglar is reportedly demanding $1 million for the computer's safe return, which could mean the salsa king has embarrassing files in his hard drive - or maybe salacious snapshots of his bootylicious wife, Jennifer Lopez, or his sexy ex-wife, Dayanara Torres.
